Christopher has worked in the industry for over three decades. After obtaining his MBA, Chris began his career in banking and soon completed his securities registration to become an advisor to more effectively assist clients with financial planning. This focus on clients’ needs has prevailed throughout Christopher’s career — he is driven by his commitment to doing right by his clients. This is exemplified by the fact that in 1991, Chris was one of the first in Canada to become a fee-based Investment Advisor.

His honesty and commitment to serving others are demonstrated in other areas of his life as well. Chris has volunteered at various international sports events, including the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and Paralympics, the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics, as well as FIFA Men’s U20 and Women’s U19 World Cups.

Christopher’s financial expertise is also sought by the publishing world. He is co-author of The Best Is Yet to Come, Enjoying a Financially Secure Retirement as well as technical editor for the Canadian editions of Finance for DummiesTM titles.

Daniel has been working with Chris for nearly 20 years. His focus is on delivering high-end, personalized client service. If you need to execute stock trades quickly and efficiently, need research on a certain investment or if you are having difficulty understanding your statements or our forms, Daniel is your number one contact.


After having attended university in Hong Kong and Taiwan, Daniel completed his honours degree in Political Science and Economics at Simon Fraser University which he attended on full scholarship and subsequently began his career in finance in 1997 with Midland Walwyn which then became Merrill Lynch Canada.  Daniel then joined Yorkton Securities in 2000 which ultimately became Macquarie Private Wealth in 2009 before finally becoming Richardson GMP Ltd. in 2013.  Daniel joined Chris Cottier in 2001 and has been a close colleague and partner ever since. In 2002, Daniel was awarded by the Government of Canada the distinguished Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and in 2012, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his long-standing volunteer commitment and dedication to the community.

Jay Gagnes, CFP, CLU, CPCA

Insurance Consultant

Specializing in corporate tax planning and high net worth personal estate planning, Jay Gangnes is an insurance specialist who works in house as a consultant for Richardson GMP Insurance Services Limited. When an insurance need is identified, Jay works with Richardson GMP’s advisors and their clients to determine how that need impacts their current financial plan and what options are available. Jay and his financial planning team then develop a customized solution that meets the client’s needs and work with Richardson GMP’s advisors to ensure that the implementation of the solution supplements the client’s existing financial plan.

Jay has extensive experience advising clients on the transfer of wealth from one generation to another, including the orderly and tax-efficient succession of family-owned businesses. Working with high net worth clients, Jay identifies their needs and enables his clients to increase their wealth and reduce their taxes, while at the same time providing them with increased security and financial stability.

Jay graduated in corporate finance from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2003 and has continued his education over the last decade. He received his CPCA designation in 2007 and his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 2010. Jay received his CLU designation in wealth transfer and estate planning in 2012 and is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table
